Recently I have been spending the vast majority of my time crocheting items for friends and for baby showers, as well as making decorations and such for a baby shower I myself will be hosting next week (more on that later)! Even though slouchy beanies are cool, my most recent favorite reason to create is because there are so many tiny humans popping up! Facebook land is overflowing with new little ones, although I am most partial to my new nephew, Nico (he's a babe, I'm telling you). Although I have made many items to cover and clothe his teeny body, my newest creations have been in honor of a family friend having twin girls! I made each of them a lovely set of booties and a hat to keep their noggins and tootsies as cozy as the day is long. I adapted the pattern I purchased from bubnutPatterns from a boy version to a girl version, and I tell you, I couldn't be happier with them! I think they are adorable and the perfect way to make something for twins that matches but not identical (don't you feel bad for these guys??).
In addition to the items for the girls, I also whipped up a few products to help out mom! I am a lover of and believer in essential oils, dōTERRA being my brand of choice. They have a blog that I find so helpful when looking for natural DIY solutions, and it was through the blog that I found the recipes for a soothing salve and a diaper cream. The diaper cream recipe is so simple, all you need is coconut oil and lavender! I love using natural products on myself, and I love even more knowing exactly what goes into them - with this cream, there's no guessing!
When creating the soothing salve, I modified it from the one they created that aided in breathing, to one targeted at skin irritations. This recipe is so easy to customize! Rather than using a combination of lavender, cypress, melaleuca, frankincense, and eucalyptus, I used only lavender and frankincense. I made the same salve for my future sister-in-law to use as a nipple cream and to help heal her C-section incision; it has got to be amazing stuff because she texted me the day after I gave it to her to tell me how much relief it had provided her during her breastfeeding experiences!
Crafting and DIY my seem so trivial at times, but I just love the feeling of satisfaction I get when I have finished a project. Even more, I love knowing I may have brightened someone's day, and the look on people's faces when they are surprised and delighted to see what I have made for them makes me feel even more accomplished. It's a simple hobby, but it brings me such feelings of happiness. What activities bring you joy in your life?
