Guys, I just did something crazy. Well, maybe only half crazy... I signed up for my first half marathon! On August 28th, I will be participating in the Emerald City Half Marathon! To me, this is something incredible, and possibly unreachable, but I am determined that I will do this, and I will do it well. I will be the first to tell you, I am NOT a runner. But for the last 2-3 years, I have hoped to be. My only aspiration for myself (never accomplished, mind you) was to be able to completely run a 5k without stopping to walk. Although this is a relatively small and pretty achievable goal, it's one I found hard to accomplish without a tangible race deadline. As you can imagine, I have set the goal before myself several times, but never committed to a race within a long enough period of time that I had adequate time to train. So, as you can imagine, these races usually ended with me panting heavily and kicking myself in the ass for not making better training efforts beforehand.
NOT. THIS. TIME.
THIS time, I have signed up with 17 weeks to go before the race. THIS time, I have researched several training programs, and found an app that I think will work for me. THIS time, I will not let myself fail. I am certain I will have to walk part of it. I am certain I will be slower than I would like. I am certain I will ask myself over and over again, "WHY did I do this to myself and WHY am I paying for it?!" But of this I am also certain: I will finish it. And hey, nothing spices up your wedding planning like being 4 months out and throwing in 3-4 runs a week, plus completing a huge race 2 weeks before you get married...
Oh, and in case you were wondering:
13.1 miles =
