I've decided to make a dress. I really like sewing, and although I don't do it often, I'm not all that horrible at it. I've made a Halloween costume for myself when my boyfriend and I went as Zuul and Vinz Clortho (if you don't understand that reference we can't be friends), a few headbands, and a few cases to hold my crochet hooks. They aren't amazing by anyone's standards, but they're good enough for me.
Anyway, back to the dress. I have a mild obsession with vintage items, mainly from the era of the 50's and 60's. I love the clothes, the hair, the aprons, the food, the kitchen appliances, I can go on. The other day, after watching The Help for about the 8th time (there are other movies set in that era I love as well, this just happened to be the movie I was watching at the time that influenced this), I set my mind to it that I would make myself a dress that would look like something these women would have worn. So, off to Joann Fabrics I went. I looked through pattern books, wrote the numbers down of the ones I liked, took photos, and went home and showed them to my mom. I decided on a pattern I liked, one that was casual enough that it could be worn all the time, yet dressy enough I could wear it out to a party or something of that nature, and went back the next day with my friend/boyfriend's sister, Megan, to purchase it. While we were chatting and perusing the store, we stumbled across this fabric, one that we thought would be a perfect segue between the 50's and modern day, and I purchased the two items (we also got a pattern for an apron, but I might save that post for another day). I realized when I got home that in my excitement I had forgotten to purchase the other items needed for the piece (buttons, eyelet hooks, a belt buckle) so I had to return the following day, but now I should be ready to roll! So, be on the lookout over the next week or so for a fabulously 50's post, because I am pretty darned excited about this!
That's all, for now ;)
